The voice behind one of the world’s most favorite TV characters, Tinky Winky, has gone to another world at the age of 52, days after celebrating his birthday.
Simon Shelton Barnes, also referred to as the voice behind Tinky Winky’s cute purple face, has died at the age of 52.
Barnes, who was a professional ballet performer and choreographer and was never particularly interested in acting, left behind three children and his wife.
Barnes, who was never keen on playing the character in the first place, has said that playing his character was actually an amusing experience, while the show seemed like a massive hit among children.
And it was!
For Barnes, this move was unexpected and surprising, but it was definitely worthy of the risk and time spent.
Remembering his father via a Facebook post,
Barnes’ son wrote that he was devastated to have lost his father, defining him
as one of the nicest and endearing characters one will ever meet.
He also added that back in the day, he was not very excited about his father being a dancer, but he has not only come to terms with the facts, but actually began enjoying Simon’s performances.
