This is what all fans of the early 1990’s, motion picture, hit have been waiting for: ‘Pretty Woman’ the musical. The story is going to be back with an equally talented cast and creative team, but this time it will be portrayed on Broadway.
The Richard Gere and Julia Roberts sequel is finally here, but this time in terms of Broadway!
One of the top ten rom-coms of the century (well, according to almost every woman who has seen it): ‘Pretty Woman’, is being made into a Broadway musical.
The 1990 classic was
originally directed by Gary Marshall, who tragically passed away last year and
never knew about the realization of the project, but fortunately knew of its
prospects almost 3 years ago, is to be reconfigured by a team of creatives including
the well-known music-man, Bryan Adams.
Class versus adultery is the theme of the film that starred Oscar-award winning, main characters: Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, but the musical will be featuring an equally prominent cast including: Samantha Barks from the motion picture ‘Les Misérables’ and Steve Kazee who has starred in ‘Shameless’ and ‘Nashville.’
The story is partly owned by Disney and has been worked on behind the scenes for quite a while now. Theatrical rights where signed by Gary himself in the late 1980’s in order to ensure that Julia’s character was a seducer rather than a model.
In about a years’ time the test-run, so to speak, of the musical will be
in the Oriental Theatre in Chicago, Illinois and thereafter will be shifted to
Broadway for its (second) big break.
