The actress expressed her feelings about the fact that she was abused at age 12.
Kaya Scoldelario opened up about her case of abuse when she was 12 on Twitter, along with the current rise of the #MeToo movement. This movement is encouraging people to talk about ignored or hidden cases of assaults, most of them being people from Hollywood, as we know about the allegations against Woody Allen and even against the royal family’s preferred photographer, Mario Testino.
It's taken me 13 years to say #MeToo .He is still protected by 'family members' in Brazil. They've told lies to papers to try to silence me.— Kaya Scodelario (@kScodders) October 16, 2017
As she stated, the perpetrator of the act is still being protected. She also encouraged people to not stay silent about any problem of this kind that they may have, it's important to always say something when these types of events are going on in your life, you have to raise your voice and make known that you don't want to be a part of that act; never stay silent.
To finally speak out and not be afraid. To everyone still suffering silently, you never asked for it. NOBODY DOES.— Kaya Scodelario (@kScodders) October 16, 2017
As the actress stated, no one deserves to be treated this way. We’re all human beings and deserve respect. She also said that she's doing this for her son.
I do this for my son. So that he will see one day that we all have a voice. And that this behavior can not be tolerated any longer.— Kaya Scodelario (@kScodders) October 16, 2017
However, the actress stated that she doesn't want that to define her. In fact, this kind of unfortunate events shouldn't define anyone. A person is more than just a bad phase, event or whatever, no one deserves to be known as the person who was abused or assaulted. It’s our experience, and not just an unfortunate event.
Besides that fact, she's still a talented actress. She has starred in the Skins series, The Maze Runner and Pirates of the Caribbean. She has some upcoming projects, such as “Die in a gunfight” that will be premiering later this year. She’s also happily married to Benjamin Walker since 2015.
