Grumpy cat is not only moody, but can scratch pretty well two, especially when it comes to legal matters that have to do with copyright regulations.
Grumpy cat goes to court! The cat owners have recently filed a lawsuit in which they came out as winners, and were thus paid staggering $710,000 in a California federal court case. The owners filed the suit against owners of US coffee mogul Grenade for a breach of contract, after the company used the cat’s face even after the copyright agreement expired.
In fact, Grenade was entitled to using the photo solely for selling its "Grumppuccino" beverage, but in the end it turned out the company was using the meme to sell a whole bunch of other products.
The Grumpy cat became an Internet sensation years ago, after it was firstly posted on Reddit by Tabatha Bundesen.
The first time Grumpy cat owners and Grenade signed an agreement was in 2013. The agreement was worth $150,000, and was solely in reference to that one drink.
Two years later, the company began including the funny-looking cat photo for selling other products such as polo shirts and else.
Immediately after, the owners filed a lawsuit and a court in California ruled in their favor.
The cat, who is now six years old, has
become quite the meme sensation, due to its relatable ‘mood’ which thousands of
fans found funny.
