Many women dream of being mothers and when they get pregnant they live with great enthusiasm every moment while expecting and with great prospect of knowing the little one who will be part of their life and will make it chaotically wonderful.
This emotion lived Valorie Salsman, a 26-year-old woman and Kelby Casebolt, her couple.
In a routine examination, being five months pregnant, this couple received unexpected news from their doctor, which left them speechless.
The doctor discovered that the baby, who was in the process of gestation, had shorter bones than normal and immediately sent them to another specialist, who diagnosed the baby with a disease called osteogenesis imperfecta or brittle bones.
It is a disease that does not allow the healthy development of bones so that the person is prevented from doing daily activities, because his bones can be fragile like a glass and can be broken with minimal effort.
Kaden, the baby who was expected by the couple, already had fractures in different parts of his tiny body and they could be seen through the ultrasound.
This news was shocking for the parents, and they were informed that the baby only had a 5% chance to survive because he could die in childbirth and if he survived, he would breathe and walk difficulty.
And added to the above, he would suffer a lot after each bone break.
Based on the medical experience, the couple was advised to interrupt the pregnancy, a suggestion they did not accept, clinging to the 5% chance they had been given.
This decision was accepted by the medical team, but at the same time, the couple was informed that they had to manage the procedures of the funeral home.
Kaden was born at
the indicated time and to the surprise of the parents, the baby did not need
any help to breathe, however, he did not stop being worrisome for them, but
they were willing to help their son to overcome any obstacle he could face with.
The mother commented that despite everything they told her when she heard him crying and put him on her chest, she knew that he was going to survive and she thinks so every day.
Today despite all medical prognosis, Kaden is five years old and like every child has his own dreams and is identified with "Superman”, his favorite comics superhero because he can fly and he is strong.
Although the couple decided to separate, the child has the unconditional support of both.
From birth until now Kaden has experienced more than 40 bone ruptures and was operated several times, but there has not been an impediment for this brave little man to live his life as every child.
