Samantha Welsh is a single mom of a restless little kid named Rylan. In January 2015 they took a trip on a train. Even though the train was very crowded that day, Samantha managed to make room for a man, in glasses and a hat, to sit down next to them.
During their trip, young mom did everything she could to keep her little son occupied, played games and talked to him. One theme they’ve been discussing was good manners.
Eventually, Rylan fell asleep and his mom moved him onto her
man, who was sitting next to Samantha, reached his station, he stood up and
gave her a note saying “I think you’ve dropped this out of your bag.” Then he
quickly disappeared. Single mom looked at the paper given by that stranger and
realized it was a handwritten note wrapped around a £5 bill.
In the note
he wrote: “Have a drink on me, you’re a credit to your generation, polite and
teaching the little boy good manners. P.S. I have a daughter your age, someone
did the same for her once. Hope when she has children she is as good a mother
as you.” and signed it “man on train at table with glasses and hat.”
Woman didn’t expect that and was so surprised that this note has nearly made her cry. She would like to thank that man, but he disappeared so fast that she could do it. So when Samantha and Rylan got home, they began searching for him on Facebook. About a week later the kind man was identified.
It was Ken
Saunders, who was on his way home from work at the National Health Service in
England. He said that he was just coming home after a long and hard working day
and watching at these two was just like a breath of fresh air. A playful and
energetic little Rylan reminded him of his daughter when she was a kid.
He was also
touched by the way Samantha corrected Rylan’s manors and he said: “It made such
a change compared to the maligned young people of today. I thought, ‘She’s
lightened up my night, I’m going to lighten up her night.”
