The actress and producer of Hollywood Reese Witherspoon confessed on the popular TV show of Oprah that she was involved in a relationship in which she was a victim of physical and emotional abuse.
Reese declared that if she hadn't ended that relationship in time, she hadn't been able of having all the success that she currently has. According to her, it was in a moment of revelation that her partner at that moment treated her the way they did and that was when she decided to split up with them.
The actress didn't want to mention the name of this ex-couple, but everyone is speculating that it may be the actor Ryan Philippe, she was married to him between the years 1999-2007. And Elsie Hewitt, the model, and Ryan's ex-girlfriend denounced him in public because of physical abuse. Reese and Ryan had two children together before deciding to split up in 2007 and it seems that is him the person who Reese talked about in Oprah's program.
However, although the couple split up in really bad terms, Reese has decided to not talk about her ex-husband's case. But she has talked about the well-known abuse cases that have been revealed in the movie industry, specifically the ones related to the producer Harvey Weinstein, whom she was personally a victim.
Later in the show, Witherspoon confessed that she felt really optimistic about the role that women are doing in the current society. She says that it's very encouraging to be a witness in a time where the women are closer to the gender equality that they had been fighting for years.
To achieve this, Reese founded along with other several actresses the foundation Time's Up that is in charge of giving all the necessary support to the women who have been victims of any type of harassment or abuse in the work so they can move on and denounce the victimizers and this way, cut the root of the problem.
