Greg Smith, the founder of Hybrid Athletes, a fitness company located in Orlando, shared this post on his Facebook page: “Meet ‘Amy Joe’.
For the last few weeks each Tuesday, Amy Joe and I meet at the corner of Pine street and S. Orange ave in downtown Orlando (I work downtown and am always moving around the city).
Each day for about a week I saw Amy Joe at this corner and she never asked for money….she simply said ‘Good morning Sir, have a great day, God Bless!!’ and smiled. I wear a suit to work every day so I get asked a lot for money quite often downtown… but never once from Amy Joe.
Every Tuesday Amy Joe and I now have lunch together. For 30 min to an hour I get to hear how positive she is even though she really has nothing.”
Greg also shared that Amy Joe does not smoke, drink or do drugs, whenever she gets some money she spends it all on library books. Amy Joe doesn’t know how to read but she wants to learn so she later can get a job.
So instead of buying food when she has money she goes to the library to check out learning books.Nobody ever taught Amy Joe to read, so now, whenever Greg and Amy Joe meet, he rents a book from the library and then they read together and she then practices on her own until next time they meet up.
Greg also says: “This post is not meant to make anyone feel sorry for Amy Joe, or me brag about helping someone less fortunate. Helping someone could easily just be saying hello and smile.”What Greg is doing is an amazing thing, and Amy Joe is so inspiring with her positive attitude.Who is your Amy Joe?
